From the TaranakiDaily News - 17th August 2009

Civilscape Ltd of New Plymouth won a merit award for its post-flood bridge stabilisation work on the Waitotara Valley erosion project. Marketing itself as Taranakis Biggest Little Contractor, Civilscape was one of four finalists in the less than $500,000 category.

Civilscape spokeman Stu Haynes says the project presented unique challenges, including the extremely remote location & technical difficulties. The task was to stabilise three erosion damaged bridges.

The solutions included placement of Taranaki-sourced rock within the deep river course at the first bridge;construction of an underwater multiple gabion basket wall at the second bridge and construction of a concrete weir and rockprotection at the third. We couldnt rely on cellphones or email and the guys slept in shearers quarters, making a collect phone call each night to report progress & materials needs to the project manager" Mr Haynes said. "It was good old fashioned contracting" His team of six worked extrememly hard, didnt complain and didnt put thier hand out for any extras."They were just happy to work on something new and technically challenging".
